In a letter to all the Senators and members of the National Assembly on January 17, Abro brought to their notice that he had lodged a petition with the Director, Trade Organisations (DTO), alleging that nominations of the chambers of commerce and industry and 29 trade associations were fake and were not in accordance with the laws of the Ministry of Commerce, but were accepted in violation of the rules and regulations of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
He also referred to the petitions, filed separately by FPCCI managing committee member Fazal Kadir Sherani and former President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Shaukat Ahmed, before the DTO, enumerating details of the alleged wrong doings in the apex trade body.
He further said that a big vacuum had been created and the time had come for the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) to take notice of the activities.
"The Ministry of Commerce, as a custodian and regulator of the trade bodies, should have acted much before to rectify the wrong," he said.
He, however, appealed to the members to raise the issue on the floor of the National Assembly and Senate so that the government could take immediate corrective measures to save this institution and rebuild its reputation, integrity and dignity.
